Building for Success?

Are the Toledo Board of Education and TPS administration really building for success? What are their priorities?

June 2006 Report - Review of June 2006 building program and proposed changes - analysis of the current situation of the Building for Success program. Report documentation.

2006 Dejong & Associates Enrollment Projections - used to make 2006 changes to building program.

September 2004 Report - Concerns about the Building Program - contains analysis, narrative and recommendations of SOS and the Urban Coalition.

Just how were buildings scheduled for re-construction or renovation? Most of the decisions seem to have been made in a political context. Bowsher and Start are being rebuilt first based upon a promise by Board President, David Welch, since the gyms promised these two schools were never completed. (Promise made but not kept.) We have asked a number of times for the criteria used to schedule buildings for renewal. One factor does not seem to have entered into the equation - NEED!

Urban Planning - Has the district considered the impact on revitalizing Toledo? Has the district involved other agencies and experts in determining the sequence of rebuilding? Has the OSFC ever completed a rebuilding project in a large urban district? From our investigation, the answer to all the questions is NO. Does this make you feel comfortable with the current leadership and that the impact of the rebuilding sequence on Toledo and the urban core will be positive?
